Books A Million will offer you two free months of two magazines when they ring up your purchases. They present it like an auto enrollment, but no worries, because you can cancel anytime. What they DON'T disclose is that they share or sell your debit or credit card number to a company called Synapse Retail Ventures. So, no, you won't receive a bill in the mail---you will have an unauthorized, random company debiting your account each month!! I will be addressing this with their mgmt--and I don't mean just locally either. Just say no, folks. 

I KNOW ... I'm one of the victims. I've been getting charged every 3 months for $53 or $57. I called and asked them to give me my money back, after a few weeks, they did return my money. But, it will happen all over again in the next 3 months. I just got email saying that I'll be charged for my next 26 issues of People magazine that I didn't order. 

As my Grandfather used to say ... Nothing in life is free ;)

MANY stores offer the 'free magazine' sign up, not just BAM :( It's a good idea to talk to the BAM management, because they should be aware of what is happening. But personally I would go after Synapse Retail Ventures directly if possible. BAM probably doesn't have anything to do with the transaction after the subscription has been submitted.

Cioccolata, if you haven't already, talk to your credit card company... they maybe able to block the charges.

Nowadays customer lists = money. It's always a good idea to read the fine print before giving out your name, address, email, or phone #'s. You may be surprised to find out just how many companies can legally sell your info because you haven't designated otherwise.
